Easter is Just Around the Corner…What’s in YOUR Basket?

Spring has Arrived, and Easter is Just Around the Corner!
Time for Baskets and Bunnies…

Spring brings many things: warmer weather, longer days, rainy days, blooming flowers, and Easter!

For many people, Easter is the most important Christian holiday of the year, and is celebrated by over 2 billion people around the world. It does not have a fixed date, and changes according to the lunar calendar. The holiday always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox (the first day of astronomical Spring), so dates range from the end of March to middle of April. This year, we celebrate this fun-filled holiday Sunday, March 27, 2016.

Easter traditions around the world vary from country to country – flying kites, parades, egg fights, tossing kitchenware out of windows, bonfires, and culinary delicacies like giant omelets and lambs’ stomach. Easter traditions in the US include church services, the Easter Bunny, egg hunts and egg rolling, parades, and (of course) Easter baskets.

Cadbury eggs. Chocolate bunnies. Marshmallow Peeps. The Easter Bunny would be in serious trouble if he didn’t bring Easter baskets brimming with candy! But as awesome and delicious as these special treats are, we all know they are not exactly awesome for your teeth. This year, try replacing the candies and chocolates with some healthy treats and non-candy surprises.

Here are some alternative ideas to make your holiday a hoppy, healthy one.
~ Sugar-free gum
~ Gift cards
~ Sidewalk chalk
~ Small toys
~ Money
~ Small games
~ Fresh fruit
~ A toothbrush and toothpaste (of course!)
~ Books
~ Silly putty
~ Plastic eggs filled with stickers or temporary tattoos

A healthier Easter basket is just a hop, skip and a jump away! Happy Easter from our family to yours!
